Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah are tied atop the Champions League top scorers table at the conclusion of the group stage...

It’s Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappe jointly atop the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League scoring charts after the conclusion of the group stage, each netting their seventh goal in the competition on the final group matchday.

Salah scored against Napoli in a 2-0 victory, while Mbappe scored the opener against Juventus in PSG’s 2-1 win.

The closest contenders are a group of three players on five goals headlined by Erling Haaland who did not appear in Man City’s group finale due to an injury. Robert Lewandowski didn’t score against Viktoria Plzen and he will no longer be a threat given Barcelona were knocked out. Meanwhile, Mehdi Taremi moved up to five goals, too, after getting Porto’s first in a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid.

There’s a group of 10 players on four goals, including two Napoli players, two Benfica players, PSG’s Lionel Messi, and Bayern’s Leroy Sane, all of whom are moving on to the knockouts.

The table below is updated after each round of matches beginning with the group stage. Assists are used as the first tiebreaker, and the second tiebreaker is fewest minutes played. Both are in line with the top scorer tiebreakers that European governing body UEFA implemented for the European Championships.

Champions League Golden Boot 2021/22

The 2021-22 Champions League scoring crown was claimed by Karim Benzema. He didn’t score in the final against Liverpool, but he did enough damage in the earlier knockout rounds to finish on 15 goals, two better than Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, but short of Cristiano Ronaldo’s single-season record of 17 (2013/14).

Benzema, who also won the scoring race in La Liga with 27 goals, had a magical season in the Champions League, willing Real Madrid into the final with his goals. His three goals against Man City in the semis were critical, and in the quarterfinals Benzema silenced Chelsea’s home crowd with three goals in the first leg, and then he also scored the decisive blow in extra time of the second leg.
